You don't have to cancel Halloween this year!  If you don’t feel completely comfortable with the traditional trick or treating, there are still plenty of ways your family can still have a spooky (and safe!) Halloween.  Check out our creative ideas below.

1. Host a Halloween Scavenger Hunt

Create a spooky scavenger hunt around your house or backyard by making a list of clues for your kids to follow. If you decide to host the hunt during the evening, you can give it a spookier feel by using glow in the dark items to hide treats when they are wandering through a dark with flashlights.

2. At Home Party with a Halloween Pinata

Let's face it, the best part of any party is the pinata smashing (and cake, of course!).

Fill a halloween themed pinata with toys and delicious individually wrapped, inexpensive treats such as our Pinata Mix and Mixed Lollies for some party fun!

3. Goodie Bags

If you choose to participate in handing out candy for any trick or treaters that come by, instead of placing out individual treats, make your own goodie bag and place them in a box (and place it away from your front door so they don't get too close to the house).  This means that kids are unlikely to spread germs as they'll just grab one instead of rummaging through a bowl.  Try to place the goodie bags in a row rather than piling them together.  

For a fun alternative, try our cool novelty items such as our Crazy Teeth Pacifiers, or our Gummy Fangs.  Pop Rocks are also a fan favourite!  Make sure you leave a bottle of hand sanitiser next to your goodie bags as well to minimise spreading germs.

4. Pumpkin Lollipop Holder

We love this idea!  Get creative by carving a pumpkin and inserting lollipops...not only does this look great as Halloween decor, it allows kids to grab a treat quickly and minimises the spread of germs.  Make sure you space the lollipops apart so that they are not sitting too close to each other.

5. Drop off a Halloween Surprise Gift

Make your family and friends feel special by dropping off a Halloween Surprise gift, filled with all their favourite candy and treats!  Simply leave your treats outside their door to avoid contact.  This is also a great way to get your kids involved by letting them help choose which treats they'd like to include for their loved ones.  

Some filler ideas include chocolate bars, Zombie Chews, and anything from our novelty range.

1. The Candy Table

Use various size candy jars and place them on different heights to make it look visually interesting.  You can use wooden crates, boxes wrapped in kraft paper or wooden cake stands to add height.  Don't limit yourself to just candy jars either!  You can use bowls and decorative boxes to hold your candy, too.

Lollipops look great standing up in a vase or jar, or simply lay them down on a platter.

We often get asked how much candy to allocate per guest - we would suggest 250g per person, or roughly 8 ounces.

2. Backdrop

Create that extra WOW factor with a gorgeous backdrop.  We are totally loving the clever use of lighting and inexpensive pom poms.

3.  It's all in the details

Don't forget about the small details that help bring your table together!  Hessian or twine wrapped flower jars, a cute message in a frame, decorated lolly scoops, personalised brown paper lolly bags and candy jar labels all add the special touch to make your table special.

Our favourite time of the year is just around the corner...and we've got the perfect dessert to get you into the holiday spirit. Each creamy layer is oozing with flavour and is perfect for a Christmas treat. Go for a large bowl as seen below to share or even create individual servings in mason jars!

Ingredients

1 lot of your favourite chocolate cake - already baked and left to cool

1 lot of chocolate pudding - pre-prepared according to the instructions

250g whipping cream

5 large peppermint Candy Canes - crushed

A few drops of peppermint essence

A serving bowl (preferably glass as then the layers are visible)

Method

1. Once the cake has cooled cut into cubes and cover the bottom of

your bowl. Create a layer of pudding

on top of the cake, using about half of the mix.

2. Whip the cream with an electric mixer and add a few drops of peppermint essence.

3. Sprinkle with candy cane and repeat the layers.

4. Enjoy!

What you'll need

Disposable wooden tablespoons

Labels or stickers for decoration

White, milk or dark chocolate

Method

1. First of all decorate your spoons and get them looking gorgeous! You could use stickers, stamps or even small jewels.

2. Melt the chocolate in 30 second intervals in the microwave or on a stovetop. Whatever you prefer.

3. Dip the spoons in the chocolate and lay on wax paper to set. Top with other ingredients before the chocolate sets.

4. Allow them to set, or put them in the freezer to speed up the process.

What you'll need

A wide mouth mason jar

1 1/2 cups M&M’s

1/4 cup white sugar

2 cups plain flour

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

3/4 cup brown sugar

Ice cream scoop (to pack down each layer)

Method

Simply layer the ingredients in the mason jar using the ice cream scoop to pack down each layer of ingredients. Top off with a bow or ribbon to add a little flare.

1. Preheat your oven to 180ºC.

2. Empty the contents of the jar into a large bowl and mix well.

3. Add 3/4 cup of softened butter and fold through with a wooden spoon or using your hands.

4. In a smaller bowl, beat 1 tsp of vanilla extract with 1 egg, then add to the dry mix.

5. Place equal sized amounts of the mix onto a tray lined with baking paper.

6. Bake for 10 - 14 minutes and enjoy!
